Award-winning paintings will be selected in-person.

OVERVIEW

The theme and style should reflect the creativity of the individual artist, therefore all styles and subject matter are welcome.

All submitted must be available for sale.

This exhibition is open to submissions painted in Transparent Watercolour as defined in this call for entry:

Allowable media:

Artist’s quality transparent watercolour paint with minimal use of body colour or other accents. This definition also includes a drawing in graphite or india ink, but not archival felt pens. Only media listed in this definition are permissible.

Painting Surface:

Archival fibre paper, which includes watercolour paper, but Yupo is NOT accepted. No varnish or wax applied.

Paintings which will be shipped to the CSPWC Office must be protected with plexiglass (no glass permitted).

Paintings which are delivered directly to the gallery can be protected with either glass or plexiglass.

Application of media must be by hand, brush, or any tool by the artist without digital or mechanical assistance. Airbrush is not allowed.

AI (artificial intelligence) and computer-generated artwork and/or mechanically printed images will not be accepted.

Important Dates:

Jan 27, 2025, Mon. – Submissions Open.

Feb 07, Fri. – Deadline for Entry at 3 p.m. ET (Toronto time).

Feb 18, Tues. – Artists Notifications begins by email.

Mar 6, Thurs. – Shipped artwork due to the CSPWC Office.

Mar 11, Tues. 10 a.m. – 12 noon – Artwork due for in person drop-off at Roberts Gallery.

Mar 15, Sat. – Opening/awards Reception 1 - 4 p.m. Exhibition Opens at the Roberts Gallery, 631 Dupont St., Toronto, Ontario.

Mar 29, Sat. – Last day of the Exhibition.

Mar 31, Mon. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Pickup of artwork from the Roberts Gallery.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  1. This exhibition is open only to CSPWC Elected Members or Life Members in good standing.
  2. Artists may submit up to two images, however only one painting per applicant may be accepted for exhibitions.
  3. All paintings must not be previously exhibited at a CSPWC Members’ Exhibition, either in a gallery or Online.
  4. Accepted artists are adjudicated by digital image.
  5. Award-winning painting/s will be selected in-person by the jurors.
  6. Sales – 50% commission is deducted from the sale price. Note that the commission is shared between the Roberts Gallery and the CSPWC. Prices cannot be changed and must be in Canadian dollars. Works must be for sale. HST Registrants must declare their status and finalist will be contacted for your HST number.
  7. For sold paintings, shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
  8. All paintings must be original, created by the artist who is submitting.
  9. Paintings must not be derivative or based on the work of others or in any way an infringement of copyright. Using stock imagery or photos taken by professional photographers is not permissible, even with permission or paid licensing.
  10. Paintings must not have been created under art instruction, in a workshop, class or mentorship program.
  11. Size of work:
    1. Maximum allowed painting size, Full-Sheet, 22x30” (56x76cm).
    2. Note the Exception: there will be two horizontal larger paintings accepted, up to 72” longest dimension of frame (182cm). These two paintings are required to be: glazed with plexiglass, and be either hand delivered or shipped directly to the Roberts Gallery.
    3. Smallest allowed painting size is 10”x14” (25.4x35.56cm).
    4. Sizes in between the minimum and maximum above.
  12. Paintings must be professionally prepared for hanging, with archival materials. Plexiglass only for those paintings being shipped to the CSPWC Office (no glass). Glass or plexiglass is permitted for artworks being hand delivered directly to the Roberts Gallery.
  13. Mats, or if liners are used, must be white or off-white (professional 100% rag cotton or linen archival mats). Maximum mat size of 4” inches (10.16cm).
  14. Shipping of paintings to and from the exhibition are the responsibility of the artist. This includes shipping costs, brokerage fees and any taxes or duties or customs payable.
  15. Shipping of paintings to the CSPWC Office requires a pre-paid / round trip shipping label, with the exception of Canada Post.
  16. If your artwork has been chosen for this exhibition and you will NOT be delivering directly to the gallery within the specified timeframe, you will be required to ship it to the CSPWC office. Please note that a handling fee of $25 will be applied.
  17. “Canadian Water Colour Society 100th Anniversary Exhibition at the Roberts Gallery” is strictly open to submissions painted in transparent watercolour, as defined in this call for entry.
  18. The Jury and/or the Exhibition Chair reserve the right not to post/exhibit any painting which does not conform to all the rules of the competition.
  19. If an accepted artist withdraws their work after the adjudication, they will not be eligible to enter Members Exhibitions for three years.
  20. Notifications of Acceptance start on Tues. Feb 18, please email the office if you have not received a reply by the week’s end.
  21. Entries that are accepted for exhibition will remain on display and available for sale until the end of last day of the exhibition on March 29, 2025.
  22. Artists must carry their own insurance.
  23. After the end date of the exhibition at the Roberts Gallery, painting images will be archived in an online exhibition on the CSPWC website. The CSPWC reserved the right to remove any posted online painting at any time for any reason.

Entry fees are non-refundable.

Please ensure your images are cropped to show only the painting. Do not include mats, frames or backgrounds of any kind.

Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance will begin February 18, 2025 If you have not had an email by the end of the week, please email the CSPWC Office.

Please Note:

By submission of entry, the artist grants the CSPWC the right to use the image of the accepted work for publicity, educational, archival, and reference purposes. The artist also grants the Roberts Gallery the right to use the image of the accepted work for publicity purposes.

By submission of entry, the artist agrees to all of the terms and conditions of entry as per this form.
